The former ranch house was transformed into a modern house with the application of steel-troweled stucco, which appears as concrete, to its exterior. Wood stripes within the stucco transformed its problematic horizontality into a design feature, and they continue through the custom doors and windows in an uninterrupted fashion to the steel-troweled orange wall, whose color announces the entrance. The perfectly horizontal gutter, which creates another band, conceals the sloping gutter within it, and the Asian-infuenced rain chains were used as a design feature in the place of the common downspout.
